New Year's Resolutions

The end of another year is getting close and at this time everyone starts thinking about New Year’s resolutions.  To be honest, starting a plant-based lifestyle was not a New Year’s Resolution for me.  Mine started like the majority by simply researching and asking loads and loads of questions.  According to recent news, 2018 was the year where many people started following this lifestyle but many keep asking me the same question; but why ?

Good for them: Plant-based foods are typically low in saturated fat, high in fibre, and packed with a wide range of vitamins and minerals.Good for the planet: It takes less land, less water and less CO2 to produce plant-based foods. In fact, just one day of plant-based eating saves 1,500 litres of water – equating to two weeks’ worth of showers per person!

It is very interesting to see that companies that produce vegan products such as plant-based milk,  dairy alternatives and vegan burgers have such a high demand that they are struggling.  Vegan companies are struggling to meet the growing demand for plant-based products, according to the CEO of a major brand.  Nowadays, customers can find any alternative they want in a supermarket, whilst before it was not that common to be a vegan and it was even harder for people whom had for example gluten intolerance or lactose intolerance to find suitable products.  It is amazing to see this transition happen before our eyes.

Due to the holidays and the festive season, it is normal that when you go to a party you come across vegans or vegetarians.  That is why many outlets and restaurants are promoting a new vegan menu.  With this being said, on social media and websites people are promoting a vegan-friendly merry Christmas.  Nowadays, it is quite easy to find the recipes for wholesome foods with many vitamins and nutrients.

As a New Year’s resolution there is no need to switch to a plant-based diet immediately as it is not good for the mind and eventually you will go back in eating the same way as before.  However try to substitute cows’ milk to almond, rice or even oat milk.  There is a large selection where one can choose from.  Or even try once a day to eat a vegan meal.  One will feel so fresh and so positive after this transition as one will be helping both the planet and his own body.  I always keep in mind that if I fail, I don't have to punish myself, however I learn from it and that is a message for life and not only for a plant-based lifestyle.

Wishing you all the best for the holidays!
