The UK Government and Slaughterhouse Images on Meat Packets
Everyone has seen videos or clips on the way animals are treated in slaughterhouses. They are treated with no respect and no dignity. It is shameful to see people nowadays being so heartless and so unkind to such creatures. That is one of the many reasons people become vegans or vegetarians.
UK Government are taking it to another level. An official UK Government and Parliament petition has been launched - if it reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament. They are making a petition to make slaughterhouse images on meat packaging. This will be very effective as one will see the actual images on how these animals are treated and no one wants to see the actual image of the animal on their package. This is similar to cigarettes. In the UK, in 2008, packets of cigarettes started producing horrible images on the packets of the effect they have and the number of smokers had reduced significantly.
The function of packaging is to surround or wrap meat products with suitable protective material. Packaging materials were in the old days simple natural materials, e.g. leaves, but nowadays exclusively manufactured materials such as paper or synthetic films. Therefore, if this petition goes through, there will be images of slaughterhouses on the packaging.
I highly agree with this as we need to show the people the truth on what is going on behind those farms and slaughterhouses. Hopefully there will be 100,000 signatures so this will move on to the UK Parliament. On today’s factory farms, animals are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and stuffed into wire cages, metal crates, and other torturous devices. These animals will never raise their families, root around in the soil, build nests, or do anything that is natural and important to them. It is heartbreaking to know that these animals are tortured and maltreated.
